When these extra skin cells die and fall off, they mix with oils on the scalp, forming dandruff. Can you imagine all of that build up going on inside your ponytail? Totally gross.

  1. Baking soda

You read that correctly, baking soda is not only amazing for baking cookies or cleaning your teeth. It’s also a powerful disinfectant when it comes to cleaning practically anything. Many people use baking soda to clean their kitchen, scrub their bathroom tiles, and you guessed it… their scalp, too! Baking soda makes is a dandruff shampoo because it exfoliates your scalp and prevents dandruff.

Try this simple recipe at home:

  1. Mix 2 tablespoons of baking soda with water until you reach the perfect paste consistency. 
  2. For best results, part your hair in sections and apply a few drops of olive oil before spreading the paste on your scalp, and let it sit for 5-10 minutes.
  3. Thoroughly rinse the mixture out. For best results, repeat this procedure regularly - once or twice a week.

 

 

  1. Tea Tree Oil

Have you heard of tea tree oil? Some of the world top beauty brands use tea tree oil in their products.  Tea tree oil has been around for many decades. Avocados are rich in antioxidants, which keep the skin cells on your scalp happy and healthy, while bananas are especially great for conditioning the scalp and hair. While the smell may entice you to take a quick bite, your scalp will thank you for the relief.

How to use banana and avocado as a home remedy for dandruff:

  1. Mash 2 bananas with 1 avocado and apply all over your scalp where it’s itchy.
  2. Leave it in for at least 30 minutes. Rinse it out with cold water and repeat this regularly until the itchiness subsides or goes away.

 

 

  1. Apple Cider Vinegar

  1. Mix water and ACV together. Some people use a fairly concentrated mixture: 1 part ACV to 4 parts water. Other people use a less concentrated mixture, like a tablespoon of ACV to half a cup of water or more.
  2. Make the mixture the same way, but instead of using a spray bottle, take it into the shower with you in a cup. Pour it over your hair at the end of your shower. You can rinse it out after a few minutes or leave it in to dry.
